Bhauthiki: The Physics Association of NITC
Vision and Mission:
Bhauthiki, the physics association started its journey with the goal of fostering and developing a research culture among students, providing avenues for students to interact with and get an idea of research and academia.
The inaugural session of the club was conducted on September 19th, 2022, with official lighting of the lamp by Prof. Ravindra Pandey and Prof. Will Canterell from Michigan Technological University, along with the erstwhile HOD of Physics department, Prof M.K Ravi Varma, in the presence of faculty and students. Our esteem guests had an interactive session with the students about career opportunities and possibilities of joint projects.

Chandrayaan-3 Appreciation Event
On August 23, 2023, Bhauthiki live-televised the landing of Chandrayaan-3 at the Raman Hall and two other classrooms in the department of physics. Ms. Gopika from B.Tech. Sem-II anchored the event. Mr. Mayank Bisht delivered the welcome speech. On the Indian lunar missions Mr. Vishnuprathap, Ms. Meghaja, and Mr. Nirmal Shibu delivered insightful speeches. Mr. K. Venkat Bharath delivered the vote of thanks. There were more than 300 participants for the event, which made the event hugely successful.
Space and Entrepreneurship: Poster Design Contest
Bhauthiki conducted an online poster design competition on the above topic as part of
Space Week. The design team, led by Mr. Rohit Kumar Parbat, and core members formed the judging panel. The winners received certificates and books.
CosmiQuiz
CosmiQuiz is a collaborative event between Bhauthiki and the Enquire Quiz Club. More than seventy people attended the event. This was the very first event for the first-year students, thereby establishing our presence among the juniors.
Expert Talks
Anand Narayanan: Baryons Across Time: Understanding the Large-Scale Structure of the Universe
Dr. Anand Narayanan is a professor at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. On October 10, 2023, the talk took place at the Ramanujan Hall in the mathematics department. Ms. Sivapriya anchored the event. Mr. Nirmal Shibu delivered the welcome address and Mr. Akshay. E. G delivered the vote of thanks. More than 100 attendees were present.
Smijesh N: The World of Attosecond AMO Science
Bhauthiki organised an expert talk on Attosecond Science on January 15, 2024. The talk was delivered by Dr. Smijesh N, an assistant professor at MG University. Dr. Smijesh is also an adjunct research fellow at the Australian attosecond science facility. Ms. Sanksriti Saxena anchored the event. Mr. Lukhman Ummer delivered the welcome speech and Mr. Mohammed Haneef V.A delivered the vote of thanks. More than 100 attendees were present.
The Alumni Connect program
An interactive session with Ms. Dishiti Gupta, 2012-16 batch, currently pursuing PhD, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The event was exclusive to physics department members. The session was insightful, and students could clarify many doubts regarding pursuing a graduate degree abroad.
Artemis - 1 launch
Bhauthiki conducted a live screening of the launch of Artemis-1 on 29th August, 2022, even though the launch was scrubbed last minute, it was a good example of even the biggest projects gone awry and got everyone together, with an interactive session between faculty and students, and talks on the Artemis mission.
World Space Week Essay writing competition
As part of World Space Week, Bhauthiki conducted an essay writing competition based on the theme this year :“Space and Sustainability”. The winner was given a copy of the God Equation by Michio Kaku, by Dr. Manoj Puravankara from IUCAA.
Talks on starting local chapter of Optical Society of America
A talk was held by Dr Saheer Cheemandan, Assistant Professor (Physics), M. A. M. O. College, Mukkam, on the advantages and processes of starting a local chapter of the optical society of America in our institute.
Comet Watching
A comet watch event was organized when the comet named Greens Comet - C/2022 E3, passed close to Earth, on February 2nd, 2022 as this is a once-in-a lifetime event to be witnessed. We used a telescope from the department on the ECLC terrace, and the turnout was unprecedented. Unfortunately, it was not detectable due to cloudy weather, the full moon, and the comet being low on the horizon. But we managed to look at the moon and some planets. Overall it was an interesting event and we got a large number of students interested in stargazing together.
Movie screenings
Several movie screenings in the department were conducted for entertainment and science discussion.
Science Day - Outreach Program
Bhauthiki, in association with the Department of Physics, organized a full-day program on various science awareness activities for selected school students from neighboring schools. Around 60-70 students from classes 8-12 attended and were met with experimental demonstrations of various phenomena. Also conducted a science quiz contest and poster competition and other group activities. The session was inaugurated by the Director of NITC, Prof. Prasad Krishna.
