Global warming and climate change are becoming a huge threat to civilization. The rapid growth in population, urbanization, deforestation, and unplanned industrialization have made the environment so vulnerable that disasters are turning out more frequent than ever before. The National Institute of Technology Calicut has set a new interdisciplinary centre for the ‘Climate Resilience and Disaster Management’ (C-CRDM) to conduct innovative research and training to prepare communities more resilient to climate change and disasters.

The centre intends to shape resilient working professionals through research and training for effective mitigation and management of disasters. The programs offered by the centre are be beneficial for aspirants to learn about new technologies so that technical and managerial skills can be utilized most effectively during disasters. The centre lays an excellent platform for aspirants and researchers to utilize the optimum potential of technical and managerial skill at the time of emergency.


VISION:

To be the foremost centre in the field of climate adaptation and disaster management.

MISSION:

  • To develop appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies to reduce vulnerability and to make sustainable and disaster-resilient human settlements.

  • To impart skills through training and capacity building for promoting research and innovation in the field of climate and disaster resilience.

  • To engage in collaborative work with government agencies, academic institutions, NGOs, and communities to address the challenges associated with climate change.

  • To be involved in advocacy/policy/strategies by working with government and other stakeholders to integrate climate change and disaster management into national and local strategies.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To create a platform for multidisciplinary teaching and research facilities on disaster management and climate resilience.

  • To establish a structured approach for submitting research grant applications to private agencies, the central government, and the state government.

  • To collaborate with different Govt./Private agencies/Institutes/NGOs to address the issues and challenges of disaster management.

  • To develop methodological approaches to disaster early warning system for risk reduction and effectively apply the state-of-the-art technologies for disaster mitigation.
