Suresh Babu is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Kerala University (TKM College of Engg., Quilon - 1983). He had his Master of Engineering from M. S. University of Baroda (Faculty of Engg. and Tech. - 1989) with specialisation in Industrial Engineering and Management. He obtained Ph. D from Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (1997) in the area of Financial Management under the guidance of Prof. P. K. Jain. He started his carrier as a scientist - SB with Indian Space Research Organisation (1983-84), later worked in industry as works Engineer for three and half years with M/s Titan Springs Ltd., Bangalore (1984-87). His teaching carrier started at Manipal Institute of Technology MAHE University, Manipal (1989-90) as lecturer. He joined NIT (formerly REC) in 1990 as lecturer and later as Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department. Then from 2006 till June 2018 served as Professor and Head, Training and Placement, of NIT Calicut. Currently working as Professor at School of Management Studies of NIT Calicut.


He also posses a Diploma in Business Management from National Productivity Council, Baroda and a Diploma in Management from the Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. He is an Accredited Management Teacher in the Financial Management area for Center for Management Services, All India Management Association, New Delhi.


He has published about thirty papers in International and National journals such as Journal of Euro - Asian Management, South Asian Journal of Management, Journal of Financial Management and Analysis - International Review of Finance, Finance India, Indian Journal of Industrial Engineering, Indian Management, The Management Accountant, Abhigyan, The Chartered Accountant, Management and Accounting Research, 8M Journal of Indian strategy and Management, Saket Industrial Digest etc., He has published a book along with Prof. P. k. Jain (IIT Delhi) on "Capital Structure Practices of Private Corporate Sector in India" by Mashbra Industries (Publication division) New Delhi.


He has served the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode as a visiting faculty for the course Financial Management. He has also served the Department of Commerce and Management, Calicut University as a visiting faculty for MBA and M Phil programs in the Finance area. He was also associated with IGNOU Calicut as a visiting faculty.


He has co-ordinated a Two Week Short-term Training Programme on "Technology Management" and ‘Cost Management’ (sponsored by AICTE, ISTE and DST). He is a Trainee Motivator on Entrepreneurship and Management Development Programmes and his name appeared in the directory of trainee motivators published by Entrepreneurship Development Institute Ahmadabad.


He was Chairman – Admission for B Tech, M Tech, MCA and PhD programmes during 2005 and 2006 at NIT Calicut.He served as a core committee member for AIEEE 2005 and 2006.He was convener for the All India NIT MCA Entrance Examination NIMCET2006.

He was associated with Pain and Palliative Care Society Calicut and served as member of the Ethics Committee.


He is married to Dr Rajashree, an anesthesiologist, currently associated with the dept of pain and palliative care at AIMS Kochi and with the pain and palliative care society at Thrissur. Have one son, Major.(Dr)Suraj, completed graduation from AFMC, Pune and currently working as a Medical Officer in Indain Army
