    Dr. Mohammed Firoz is a an academic with specialty in Urban and Environment Management and Policy bringing over 21 years of experience in teaching, research, consulting, and administration across Doctoral, Postgraduate, and Undergraduate levels. His core interests lie in Public Policy and Planning, with specialized research expertise in areas such as sustainable development of Cities and settlements, peri-urban and rural–urban continuum development, climate change risk and resilience, regional planning and development, quality of life and livability, and socio-economic development of communities. He has a deep passion for application of Geospatial Technology, AI and ML in research related to Urban planning and climate change. He has work experience in India, Japan UK and Thailand, Dr Firoz has research and teaching expertise in SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13 – Climate Action, SDG 1 & SDG 8 – No Poverty & Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 5 – Gender Equality, SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 15 – Life on Land and SDG 4 – Quality Education

    He currently serves as the Chairperson of the Centre for Climate Resilience and Disaster Management at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut. Previously, he served as the Head of the Department of Architecture and Planning at NIT Calicut, a top-ranked institution (NIRF Rank 2) and a designated Centre of Excellence in Urban Planning and Design by the Government of India (Receiving a grand of 250 Crores or 28 Million USD during his tenure) . Dr. Firoz has held prestigious international academic positions, including as Visiting Associate Professor (Global) at Keio University Japan, Visiting Faculty at the Department of Development Studies, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand, and at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London (Housing and Urbanism Programme). He also currently serves as a Visiting Research Fellow at Shinawatra University, Thailand.

    In addition, he previously served as the Associate Dean of Students’ Welfare at NIT Calicut for five years. Over his career, Dr. Firoz has led and contributed to numerous research and consultancy projects for various government bodies, non-governmental organizations, private enterprises, and multinational funding agencies. Dr. Firoz is actively engaged in academic mentorship and innovation ecosystems, serving as a mentor and advisor to several startups, academic institutions (as a board member), and editorial boards of reputed publishing houses. He has published four books, with five more forthcoming and in process at several stages. He has authored over 45 research papers in indexed journals (including ABDC and Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus indexed) and book chapters. Additionally, he has presented more than 45 papers in national and international conferences. He has guided 7 PhDs and is currently guiding 10 more

    Highly regarded for his teaching, Dr. Firoz has consistently received top feedback scores for his courses at both NIT Calicut and AIT Bangkok, earning him a reputation for academic excellence and student engagement.
