MSc in Chemistry

The M.Sc. programme will admit bright, highly motivated students with Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry selected on an all-India basis to study at NIT Calicut. The aim of the programme is to prepare students for a research career in academia or industry, with strong basics in fundamental aspects of chemistry and exposure to the latest research trends. The programme curriculum and syllabi is designed to cover all major Ph.D. level entrance examinations like UGC, CSIR, GATE etc. of India.

The programme is spread over four semesters of course work, involving core courses, electives and laboratory courses, upon successful completion of which the candidates will be awarded a M.Sc. degree of NIT Calicut. Students can opt for their area of interest or curiosity by choosing elective courses with the advice of department faculty. Project work and seminar activities are part of the curriculum to develop the research talent of the students.

Candidates having a Bachelors degree in Chemistry with Mathematics as one subsidiary course or Bachelors degree through Chemistry and Mathematics among the main subjects with 60% mark or CGPA 6.5/10 or equivalent are eligible to apply for the programmes. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum  mark is 50% or CGPA 5.5/10 or equivalent. An entrance test will be conducted by the Institute to choose suitable candidates from among the eligible.
