About the foundation day
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut celebrates its 63rd Foundation Day on the 1st of September 2023. On the first of September 1961, the foundation stone for Regional Engineering College (REC) Calicut was laid by Shri Pattom A. Thanu Pillai, Chief Minister of Kerala, from 1960 to 1962.
Professor Kesava Rao Memorial Tower is planned to be installed in memory of Prof. Kesava Rao, the first Principal of Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC) near the main building, and its foundation stone would be laid to flag off the one-day program.
The chief guest for the Foundation Day programs is Dr. B K Das, Director General (Electronics and Communication Systems) of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
Swami Atmapriyananda, Pro-Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Education and Research Institute, West Bengal would be the guest of honour for the day.
