The Kerala Urban Policy Commission (KUPC) Youth Consultation—an initiative organized by the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and UNICEF

The Centre for Climate Resilience and Disaster Management (C-CRDM) and the Centre of Excellence in Urban Planning and Design (CoEUPD) at NIT Calicut co-hosted the Kerala Urban Policy Commission (KUPC) Youth Consultation—an initiative organized by the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and UNICEF on 24 January 2025.

The event provided a platform for young individuals to actively participate in shaping the future of Kerala’s urban landscape. The consultation aimed to gather invaluable insights from youth on their priorities, challenges, and aspirations for urban development over the next 25 years.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Priya Chandran, Dean of Planning and Development, NIT Calicut. Mr. Toby Thomas, Registrar of KILA, highlighted the significance of youth participation in urban policy making. Dr. P.P. Anilkumar, Chairman of CoEUPD, emphasized the vital role of young minds in shaping sustainable urban development. Dr. Mohammed Firoz, Associate Professor, and Head of the Department of Architecture and Planning, NIT Calicut, delivered a special address on the importance of youth engagement in Kerala’s spatial planning.
