Seminar and Film Screening on “Emergency: Samvidhan Hatya Divas” at NIT Calicut
The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) organized a thought-provoking seminar and film screening in observance of “Samvidhan Hatya Divas,” marking the anniversary of the Emergency declared in India in 1975. The event aimed to create awareness among students and faculty about the impact of the Emergency on India's democratic fabric and constitutional values.
The seminar featured expert talks that delved into the historical, political, and social implications of the Emergency period, shedding light on the suspension of civil liberties and the significance of constitutional safeguards in a democracy.
As part of the program, a documentary film related to the Emergency era was screened, providing powerful visual insights into the events and voices of that time. The screening was followed by an open discussion where participants reflected on the lessons learned and the relevance of constitutional rights in the present context.
The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and staff, reinforcing NIT Calicut’s commitment to promoting civic consciousness, historical awareness, and democratic values on campus.
