POSH Awareness Talk Conducted by ICC at NIT Calicut
The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) NIT Calicut , organized an awareness talk as part of a series of programs aimed at promoting understanding of the POSH Act (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment Act, 2013). The initiative seeks to sensitize faculty members, administrative officers, non-teaching staff, and students about the Act and the importance of creating a safe and inclusive workplace environment.
The inaugural session of the series was held on Thursday, 17th July, featuring a talk titled “POSH Act 2013: Building a Safer Workplace for All.”
The session began with a welcome address byDr. Shiny Joseph, Professor(CHED) & Presiding Officer, ICC and was presided over by Dr. N. Sandhyarani, Director-in-Charge and Dean (Research and Consultancy). The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Nilina Elais, Assistant Registrar (Establishment).
The keynote speaker was Adv. Bindu Sreenath (LLM in Taxation), a practicing advocate from Calicut with extensive experience in family and criminal law, particularly in matters related to sexual harassment and taxation. She also serves as an external member of the ICC in various academic and non-academic institutions, contributing her legal expertise to ensuring safer workplaces.
The session provided valuable insights into the legal frameworks, institutional responsibilities, and mechanisms for redressal under the POSH Act. It fostered critical dialogue on workplace safety and gender sensitivity, making it an engaging and informative experience for all attendees.
