One-Day Workshop on Blue Economy and Coastal Resilience
A One-Day Workshop on Blue Economy and Coastal Resilience was conducted on 23 January 2026 at the Board Room, Administrative Block, National Institute of Technology Calicut.
The workshop was organised to discuss key issues, opportunities, and strategies related to the Blue Economy and sustainable coastal development. Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Other distinguished invitees included Cdr. (Retd.) P. K. Srivastava, Scientist G and Advisor, MoES, Government of India, who oversees Blue Economy–related activities, and Dr. M. V. Ramana Murthy, Scientist G and Project Director, Deep Ocean Mission, MoES. Dr. M. A. Atmanand, Visiting Professor, Centre for Blue Economy and Coastal Resilience, and former Director, National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, was also present at the event.
The workshop was attended by the Dr.N.Sandhyarani Dean (Research & Consultancy), Prof. Santosh G Thampi, Chairperson, Centre for Blue Economy & Coastal Resilience,and faculty members of the Institute, along with representatives from various key stakeholder organisations. These included Dr. A. Bijukumar, Vice Chancellor, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (KUFOS); Dr. S. Suresh Kumar, Director (Research), KUFOS; Shri. Mohamed Ansari M. A., Chief Engineer, Harbour Engineering Department (HED), Government of Kerala; Shri. Jayadeep T., Superintending Engineer (North Circle), HED; Dr. P. S. Koshy, Superintending Engineer, Minor Irrigation Circle, Ernakulam; Shri. Saju Varghese, Assistant Executive Engineer, Irrigation Division, Ernakulam; and Ms. Aiswarya A. Kailas, Sustainability Engineer – Infrastructure, Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
The workshop provided a valuable platform for interaction among policymakers, scientists, academicians, and practitioners, and contributed meaningfully to advancing collaborative efforts in the field of Blue Economy and coastal sustainability.
