One-Day Wellness Seminar Held at NIT Calicut to Promote Campus Well-being
In alignment with the National Suicide Prevention Strategy by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the UGC Guidelines for Promoting Physical, Mental, and Emotional Well-being in Higher Educational Institutions (April 13, 2023), and the Framework for Emotional and Mental Well-being of Students in HEIs (July 10, 2023), the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) hosted a One-Day Wellness Seminar titled “Cultivating Wellness in Academic Campus” on July 16, 2025.
Organized by the Student Guidance Cell of NITC, the seminar aimed to foster dialogue and action around wellness in higher education. The event drew participation from over 120 faculty members and 30 doctoral students across departments.
The seminar began with a welcome address by Prof. Satyananda Panda, Dean of Student Welfare, followed by the presidential address by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut.
Distinguished Speakers and Key Sessions
The seminar featured insightful sessions by three eminent speakers:
Dr. Manimekalai Mohan, Founder, Managing Trustee & Correspondent, SSVM Institutions, highlighted various dimensions of well-being through her inclusive education experiences.
Prof. Shekhar P. Seshadri, Former Senior Professor, Dept. of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NIMHANS and Advisor to SAMVAD, shared perspectives on building institutional cultures that prioritize student well-being.
Mr. Sriram Kalyanaraman, Founder of Amidhi School of Transformation, conducted a reflective session focused on inner energy, mindfulness, and strategies for personal transformation.

Mindfulness in professional and personal contexts
Transforming institutional cultures for sustained well-being
Interactive sessions encouraged participants to reflect on both individual practices and institutional strategies to enhance overall well-being within academic communities.

The seminar concluded with a collective commitment to cultivating a culture of care, empathy, and wellness across the NITC campus. The initiative reaffirms the Institute’s dedication to supporting the holistic development of its students, faculty, and staff.
