NITC signed MoU with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at an online event on 16th February 2023. The MoU envisions collaboration in the field of standardization and conformity assessment.

Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NITC and Shri. Pramod Kumar Tiwari IAS, Director General, BIS, signed the MoU. Dignitaries from both sides also attended. The MoU will be effective for 10 years from 16th February 2023. Along with this, BIS has also signed MoUs with IIT Guwahati and IIT Gandhinagar through Video Conferencing at the same function.

The MoU envisages the appointment of a Chair in the field of Standardization and Conformity Assessment for which the Bureau will provide financial support to NITC. In order to create a corpus fund at NITC, the Bureau will provide a non-refundable endowment of Rs. 1,00,00,000/- (Rupees One Crore) in a single installment for creating BIS Standardization Chair Professorship at NITC.

According to the MoU, NITC will coordinate Research and Development efforts towards the development of standards, inputs to the drafts of new Indian Standards and revision of Indian Standards. Additionally, BIS and NITC will jointly organise seminars, conferences, workshops, symposia and lectures on topics of standardisation and conformity assessment.
