The Men’s Hockey Team of the National Institute of Technology Calicut emerged as the Champions of the All India Inter NIT Hockey Tournament 2026, held at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli from 27 February to 1 March 2026.

The team secured the title after a highly competitive and thrilling final match against National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal. The match was closely contested and was ultimately decided through a penalty shootout, showcasing the determination, composure, and fighting spirit of the NIT Calicut players under pressure.

Adding to the achievement, Mr. Gautham Kumar Singh, a B.Tech student from the Department of Electrical Engineering, was honoured with the Best Defender of the Tournament award for his outstanding performance throughout the competition.

The team was led by Mr. Kushagra Kunal from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, whose inspiring captaincy played a crucial role in guiding the team to victory. Under his leadership, NIT Calicut remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and consistency.

The remarkable success of the team was further strengthened by the dedicated coaching and guidance of Mr. Askar P.P., whose continuous support and mentorship significantly contributed to the team’s preparation and performance at the national level.

The achievement marks a proud moment for NIT Calicut, highlighting the institute’s growing excellence in sports and its commitment to encouraging student participation in national-level competitions.
