The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) welcomed more than 900 newly admitted Postgraduate (PG) and PhD scholars at its PG and PhD Orientation Programme, marking the beginning of their academic and research journey at the institute. Reflecting strong academic demand, the institute recorded 100% seat utilisation across its PG and PhD programmes for the current academic session.

The inaugural function was graced by Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director, CSIR–National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR–NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NIT Calicut, presided over the function.

Addressing the newly admitted scholars, Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan highlighted the importance of cutting-edge research, technology development and innovation in driving national progress. He spoke about the significant contributions of CSIR 

towards addressing national priorities and advancing technological capabilities at the global level. He encouraged the scholars to pursue impactful research that responds to societal needs and promotes interdisciplinary problem-solving.

In his presidential address, Prof. Prasad Krishna urged the scholars to look beyond conventional career paths and cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset. He encouraged them to translate their academic knowledge and research into innovative solutions that contribute to the nation's development and advance the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The programme commenced with the Welcome Address by Prof. A. V. Babu, Dean (Academic), NIT Calicut. The orientation provided the newly admitted scholars with an overview of the institute's academic environment, research ecosystem and institutional resources. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Ashish Awasthi, General Convenor, PG/PhD Orientation.

As part of the orientation, the scholars were introduced to NIT Calicut's advanced laboratory facilities, interdisciplinary research centres, campus resources and academic framework. The programme provided an opportunity for the new scholars to familiarise themselves with the institute's academic and research ecosystem as they begin their higher education journey.
