NIT Calicut Shines at AIINIT Athletics & Chess Tournaments 2026
The athletes and chess players of the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) delivered a remarkable performance at the All India Inter NIT (AIINIT) Athletics and Chess Tournaments held at Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar from February 4–6, 2026, securing top honours and bringing national recognition to the Institute.
NIT Calicut emerged as the Overall Champions in Athletics, marking a proud and significant achievement on the national stage. The team’s success reflected months of rigorous training, discipline, and unwavering dedication.
The Women’s Athletics Team clinched the title of Athletics Champions, finishing well ahead of the runners-up and demonstrating dominance across multiple track and field events. Their commanding lead stood as a testament to their strength, coordination, and competitive spirit.
The Men’s Athletics Team also delivered an impressive performance, securing the Second Runners-Up position and contributing significantly to the Institute’s overall championship triumph.
A special congratulations to Ms. Soumya Mathew, who was honoured with the prestigious title of “Strongest Woman in Athletics.” Her exceptional strength, consistency, and outstanding performances made her one of the standout athletes of the tournament.
NIT Calicut’s chess contingent also delivered an outstanding performance in a highly competitive field.
The Women’s Chess Team emerged as the Champions, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. Their sharp strategy, composure, and teamwork set them apart and secured a well-deserved victory.
The Men’s Chess Team earned the Second Runners-Up position, adding to the Institute’s medal tally and reinforcing its strong presence in the competition.
Special appreciation goes to Goswami Divyshri, Tharani M, and Mithun Raj N T, who were recognised as Best Board Players, bringing further honour and pride to NIT Calicut.
The Institute congratulates all the athletes, chess players, coaches, and support staff for their dedication and commitment in bringing laurels to NIT Calicut at the national level. The Institute also acknowledges the valuable support and encouragement provided by Mr. Dhanesh Rambeth, SAS Officer, whose guidance contributed to this remarkable achievement.
