NIT Calicut Secures Overall Third Position at All India Inter-NIT Faculty/Staff Sports Tournament 2025

NIT Calicut delivered an impressive performance at the All India Inter-NIT Faculty/Staff Sports Tournament 2025, held at National Institute of Technology Jalandhar from 25 to 27 December 2025. Competing against teams from NITs across the country, NIT Calicut secured the Overall Third Position, reflecting the institute’s consistent excellence in sports and team spirit.

Chess Team Emerges Champions

The Chess Team of NIT Calicut once again demonstrated its dominance by emerging as Champions of the tournament, winning all their matches without a single loss. This victory marks yet another consecutive championship title for NIT Calicut in Chess, reinforcing the institute’s strong legacy in the sport.

A special mention is due to Dr. Biswajit Mandal, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, whose outstanding performance earned him the prestigious Board Prize (First Board).

Strong Medal Haul by Badminton Team

The Badminton Team of NIT Calicut delivered an exceptional performance, winning three medals among 24 participating teams, highlighting the institute’s strong presence in the tournament.

Achievements in Badminton:

  • Men (Below 50 Years) – Runner-up Trophy
     

  • Mixed Doubles – Runner-up Trophy
     

  • Women’s Doubles – Second Runner-up Trophy
     

The individual performance of Mr. Abhilash A (Department of Mechanical Engineering) deserves special appreciation, as he contributed to two medals in the Men (Below 50 Years) and Mixed Doubles categories.

The tournament also marked the first-ever participation of the Women’s Badminton Team from NIT Calicut. The team made the occasion memorable by winning medals. Ms. Lakshmi M (Department of Architecture) won two medals, with excellent support from her partner Ms. Chelsa C (Central Computer Centre).

NIT Calicut also participated in the Table Tennis event. Although the team did not secure medals, their performance was commendable and competitive, demonstrating determination and sportsmanship.
