NIT Calicut Ranked No. 1 in National Green University Ranking (NGUR) 2026

The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the No. 1 position in the National Green University Ranking (NGUR) 2026, earning a Platinum Rating with an outstanding score of 96.5/100.

The ranking was announced on 29 July 2026. The official award will be presented during the 10th NYC Green School Conference 2026 in New York City, organized in partnership with Climate Week NYC and aligned with the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81).

The National Green University Ranking (NGUR) is a flagship initiative of Green Mentors, developed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UNESCO Greening Higher Education Framework. The ranking recognizes higher education institutions for their commitment to environmental sustainability, climate action, and green campus practices.

NIT Calicut's top national ranking reflects the Institute's sustained efforts towards creating an environmentally responsible and sustainable campus. Over the past few years, the Institute has implemented several initiatives focusing on biodiversity conservation, large-scale tree plantation, sustainable landscaping, efficient resource management, and eco-friendly campus development.

A significant driving force behind these initiatives has been the leadership of Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NIT Calicut, who has spearheaded comprehensive greening efforts across the campus since 2021. Under his guidance, the Institute has strengthened its commitment to environmental stewardship by integrating sustainability into campus planning and operations.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges the collective contributions of the Institute's leadership, faculty, staff, students, and the entire campus community. Securing the top position in the NGUR 2026 further reinforces NIT Calicut's standing as a national leader in sustainable higher education and its commitment to building a greener future.
