NIT Calicut Partners with NRDC to Advance Technology Commercialization

The National Institute of Technology Calicut has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), a Government of India enterprise under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, to accelerate the commercialization of research and innovations developed at the institute.

This strategic collaboration establishes a structured framework for translating cutting-edge technologies from NIT Calicut's laboratories into commercially viable products and processes. Through NRDC's expertise in technology transfer, intellectual property management, licensing, and industry outreach, the partnership will bridge the gap between academic research and industrial application.

Under the agreement, NRDC will facilitate the marketing and licensing of selected technologies developed at NIT Calicut by identifying industry partners, negotiating licensing arrangements, promoting innovations across sectors, and managing royalty administration. NIT Calicut will provide the necessary technical expertise, documentation, and support to ensure successful technology transfer and implementation.

The MoA was signed in the presence of senior officials from both organizations. Representing NRDC were Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, Dr. B. K. Sahu, Deputy General Manager & Head – Outreach, and Dr. Bhavya, Scientist & Deputy Manager. Representing NIT Calicut were Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, Dr. Sunil Jacob John, Registrar (In-charge), and Dr. A. P. Sudheer, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

This partnership marks another significant step in strengthening academia-industry collaboration, promoting innovation-led entrepreneurship, and enhancing the societal and economic impact of research. It also aligns with India's vision of fostering self-reliance through technology-driven development and innovation
