NIT Calicut Inaugurates Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 – Grand Finale (Software Edition)
NIT Calicut has been selected as a prestigious National Nodal Centre for hosting the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 Grand Finale (Software Edition), reaffirming its commitment to promoting open innovation and problem-solving among India’s youth.
The two-day non-stop hackathon, one of the world’s largest innovation events, was inaugurated with great enthusiasm, bringing together top young innovators from across the country.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, highlighting the national significance of the event. The hackathon was formally inaugurated by Prof. N. Sandhyarani, Dean (Research & Consultancy), NIT Calicut, who served as the Chief Guest. Ms. Indu Govind, Manager, IP & Tech Transfer, AICTE Innovation Center, Trivandrum, joined the event as the Guest of Honour.
Other key dignitaries included Dr. Dhananjai Srivastava, Sh. Abhay Kumar, and Sh. Urvekkumar Chandravadan Shah from NCIIPC, along with AICTE Nodal Centre Heads Ms. Asmita Dhillon and Mr. Sanket Inamdar.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. N. Sandhyarani highlighted the transformative role of SIH in nurturing innovation, creativity, and real-world problem-solving skills among India’s emerging talent. All dignitaries appreciated NIT Calicut’s meticulous efforts and readiness to host a national-level hackathon.
SIH 2025 has witnessed one of the largest innovation responses in India’s history. At the NIT Calicut Nodal Centre alone, 20 top-performing student teams from leading institutions across the country are participating. A key highlight this year is the strong representation of women in technology, with 40% of the participants being female students.
Throughout the 48-hour event, teams will work intensively to develop functional prototypes and solutions for challenging real-world problem statements.
NIT Calicut has set up comprehensive facilities to ensure a seamless and inspiring hackathon experience, including 24x7 lab access, high-speed internet, dedicated technical support, and expert mentoring sessions.
The institute extended a warm welcome to all participants and expressed confidence that the innovative solutions developed at SIH 2025 will contribute meaningfully to building a technologically empowered India.
