NIT Calicut Hosts Quantum Science and Technology Workshop
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) organized a one-day workshop on Quantum Science and Technology, bringing together experts from government, industry, and academia to discuss the future of quantum research and innovation in India.
The workshop, chaired by Dr. Murali, Chairman of the Centre for Industry Institutional Relations (CIIR), focused on aligning the institute's research and academic initiatives with the objectives of the National Quantum Mission.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NIT Calicut, emphasized the strategic importance of quantum technologies in driving India's future scientific and industrial growth.
A key session by Dr. Jacob George, Visiting Professor, titled "Quantum Leap: Applications Across Industry and Research," outlined a roadmap for developing quantum curricula, strengthening research infrastructure, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. Expert talks were also delivered by Col. Sai Shankar, Founder and Director of QClairvoyance, and Dr. Vijay Anand Ramanujan, CEO of FQCI, who highlighted industry applications and commercialization opportunities in the quantum sector.
In a major announcement, Shri Sreeram Sambasiva Rao, Secretary, Kerala State Information Technology Department, announced a ₹2 crore grant to support NIT Calicut's quantum research initiatives. The funding will help establish advanced research facilities, specialized training programmes, and collaborative projects with industry.
The workshop marks a significant step in positioning NIT Calicut as a leading centre for quantum science, research, and innovation in the country.
