NIT Calicut hosts Insightful Talk on New Criminal Laws

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) hosted  Nyaya Sanhita on Tuesday aimed at raising awareness and disseminating information about India's three new criminal laws: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, who underscored the critical need for legal awareness among students and faculty. Prof. Krishna highlighted the importance of understanding these new legal provisions and their broader societal impact.

Dr. Lawwellman P, Assistant Professor at Government Law College, Kozhikode, was the guest speaker. He delivered an in-depth analysis of the new laws, explaining their implications and the transformative changes they bring to the existing legal framework. His insightful presentation provided the attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the legislative changes and their practical applications.

The talk aimed to foster a legally informed academic community at NIT Calicut. Attendees left with valuable insights into the new criminal laws, enhancing their understanding of the legal landscape and its relevance to everyday life.

The event was a collaborative effort, jointly organized by the Centre for Public Relations, Information and Media Exchange (C-PRIME) and the Establishment Section of NITC.

Cdr. Dr. Shamasundara M S, Registrar of NITC, delivered a felicitating address, noting that the new criminal laws represent an attempt to align Indian legal practices more closely with the Constitution of India. Prof. Rajanikant G K, Chairperson of C-PRIME, also emphasized the evolution of these laws to address challenges posed by technologically adept criminals.

Dr. Vrinda Varma and Mr. Dhanesh Rambeth, members of C-PRIME also addressed the gathering.

The session marked an important step towards creating a more legally aware environment at NIT Calicut, ensuring that the academic community stays informed about crucial legal developments.
