The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) organized a felicitation programme to honour the Student Empowerment for Environmental Development (SEED) initiative of Mathrubhumi, recognising its remarkable contribution to environmental conservation, sustainability, and youth empowerment in Kerala.

The SEED initiative has made a lasting impact by inspiring environmental awareness among students and young people through innovative programmes that promote ecological responsibility and community participation. Over the years, the initiative has played a pivotal role in nurturing environmental stewardship and encouraging sustainable practices across educational institutions in the state.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NIT Calicut, who delivered the presidential address. In his address, he commended Mathrubhumi's SEED initiative for creating a generation of environmentally conscious citizens and highlighted the importance of educational institutions partnering with socially impactful initiatives to address environmental challenges. He also emphasized that sustainability and environmental responsibility should remain integral to higher education and community engagement.

Delivering the keynote address, Smt. R. Keerthi, IFS, Conservator of Forests (Social Forestry), Northern Region, appreciated the sustained efforts of the SEED initiative in promoting environmental conservation among school and college students. She noted that such collaborative initiatives significantly contribute to building a greener and more sustainable future.

Dr. Maneesh Chandran, Chairperson, Centre for Public Relations, Information and Media Exchange (C-PRIME), NIT Calicut, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of recognising organisations that have consistently demonstrated excellence in environmental education and public engagement.

Representing Mathrubhumi, Shri Manikandan C., Assistant General Manager, expressed his gratitude to NIT Calicut for the honour bestowed upon the SEED initiative. He reflected on the journey of the programme and reaffirmed Mathrubhumi's commitment to expanding environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives across Kerala.

Shri Pramod, Officer, Social Initiatives, Mathrubhumi, spoke about the evolution of the SEED programme, its achievements over the years, and its positive impact on students, educational institutions, and local communities through various environmental campaigns and activities.

The felicitation programme witnessed the participation of faculty members, staff, students, environmental enthusiasts, and representatives from Mathrubhumi, reflecting the shared commitment of educational institutions and media organisations towards promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
