NIT Calicut Celebrates Van Mahotsav 2026
The National Institute of Technology Calicut proudly celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability through a bamboo plantation drive and an engaging awareness session on forest conservation.
We were honoured to welcome Smt. R. Keerthi, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Social Forestry, Northern Region, as the Chief Guest. As part of the celebrations, bamboo saplings were planted across the campus in the presence of Prof. Sunitha M. S., Director-in-Charge and Dean, Faculty and Staff Welfare, Prof. Sunil Jacob John, Registrar In-Charge, faculty members, staff, and students.
In her inspiring address, Smt. R. Keerthi highlighted the vital role of forests in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change. She also shared valuable insights into how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), drones, remote sensing, satellite imagery, and data analytics are revolutionizing forest conservation through real-time monitoring, wildfire detection, biodiversity protection, and sustainable forest management.
The interactive session with students encouraged the next generation to embrace innovation while remaining committed to protecting nature. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to conserve forests, preserve biodiversity, and work towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.Every tree planted today is a step towards a healthier planet for tomorrow.
