NIT Calicut Celebrates 12th International Day of Yoga 2026
The Centre for Yoga & Holistic Wellness, in association with the Centre for Student Activities and Sports (CSAS), National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut), successfully organized the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026 at the institute campus.
The celebration was held in alignment with this year's International Day of Yoga theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," which emphasizes yoga as a lifelong practice that promotes physical strength, mental well-being, emotional balance, and overall quality of life across all age groups.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NIT Calicut, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga and meditation into daily life and reflected on India's invaluable contribution to global well-being through the ancient wisdom of yoga. Drawing from his personal experience with Heartfulness Meditation, he underscored the role of yoga in fostering both inner peace and physical wellness.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sunita K. and was attended by Dr. Satyananda Panda, Dean (Students' Welfare), along with faculty members, staff, and students of the institute.
A comprehensive yoga session was conducted by experts from Ayurjyothi Yoga Academy, Wayanad, under the leadership of Mr. Jyothish K.P. Participants actively engaged in various yoga practices designed to enhance flexibility, strength, mindfulness, and overall health, reflecting the spirit of this year's theme.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Satyananda Panda, Dean (Students' Welfare). The event was coordinated by Dr. Rajanikant G. K., Chairperson, Centre for Yoga & Holistic Wellness, and Mr. Dhanesh Rambeth, SAS Officer, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
Through such initiatives, NIT Calicut continues to promote holistic wellness and encourage the adoption of yoga and meditation as integral components of a healthy lifestyle, contributing to the development of a healthier, happier, and more resilient society.
