International Conference on Lie Algebra and Number Theory begins at NIT Calicut
An international Conference on Lie Algebra and Number Theory (ICLANT 2024) started at NIT Calicut participating experts and delegates from across the globe. Organised by the Department of Mathematics, National Institute of Technology Calicut, Lie algebras and superalgebras, the most important algebraic structures with ample applications in quantum mechanics and related areas.
The five-day conference will discuss geometry, harmonic analysis, algebra and representation theory, and number theory. The conference aims to bring together researchers working in various areas of algebra and number theory to exchange knowledge and further possible collaborations.
“We need numbers to control everything,” said Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NITC, during his address. He detailed the significance of numbers and number theory.
Speaking about Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and his excellence in the field of Mathematics, Prof. Prasad Krishna stressed the importance of reflecting upon something that a person listens to and meditating about the same. “Knowledge becomes one’s own only when he reflects upon what he has listened and meditated on the same to create knowledge,” he pointed out.
As many as 36 speakers, of which 13 are from international destinations like the USA, Canada, Israel, Japan, and Iran are attending the conference. Besides, 23 speakers from esteemed Institutions in India such as IISER, IISc, TIFR, NISER, IIT, ISI, IMSc, IIIT, etc, will also speak to the participants.
The event was attended by around 120 mathematicians from India and abroad. Additionally, a total of 66 participants, including those who are pursuing BSc./MSc./Ph.D./ Post Doc./ faculties, from both abroad and various regions within the country, are also attending. The conference will feature 6 keynote talks, 16 invited talks, 12 young scientists talks, and 28 contributory talks.
Prof. Prasad Krishna, the Director of NIT Calicut, presided over the inaugural session. Padma Shri Prof. R. Balasubramanian, Ex-Director of IMSc, Chennai, and the recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award was the chief guest of the inaugural session. Prof. Kohji Matsumoto from Nagoya University and Aichi Institute of Technology, Japan, delivered a felicitation address. Dr. Mahesh Kumar, the Head, Department of Mathematics, Dr. Saudamini Nayak and Dr. Chiranjit Ray, Conveners of ICLANT-2024 also spoke.

Abstract of ICLANT '24 was released during the inaugural session
