Hon'ble Union Minister Shri. V Muraleedharan launched new initiatives at NITC

 

Honourable Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri. V. Muraleedharan, visited NIT Calicut on 24th February 2023. The minister launched several new initiatives during the event. Shri PTA Rahim, MLA Kunnamangalam also attended the event.

The Director, Prof Prasad Krishna in his presidential address urged on the need for multidisciplinary knowledge and aptitude for engineering students. He insisted on the ideal of India becoming a “Vishwa Guru”. He assured that NITC fraternity will wholeheartedly deliver to that cause.

The Hon. minister Shri V Muraleedharan addressed the gathering and emphasized the need of diversifying education and learning and the global significance of the same. He also shared his personal experiences and urged that the media must be guided by ethics and be committed to the idea of unbiased ethical reporting.

Shri PTA Rahim, MLA Kunnamangalam also addressed the gathering and congratulated the institute for its endeavors.

The Deputy Director of NITC, Prof Sathidevi PS congratulated the Center for International Relations and Foreign Languages and conveyed best wishes to the newly formed Center for Women Welfare and Social Empowerment. The Registrar, Cdr. Dr Shamasundara M S, in his welcome address, assured that NITC will continue to commit itself to several other socially committed initiatives.

NITC also signed an MoU with the Mahatma Gandhi College of Mass Communication (MAGCOM) with the intent to collaborate for academic courses in the domains of content writing, technical writing and international media studies. MAGCOM has already signed a similar MoU with JNU, Delhi for academic collaboration. Speaking on the occasion, Dr N R Madhu, from MAGCOM said that several engineers now turn to courses in media studies and he hoped that collaborating with an institute such as NITC will open newer possibilities. The Registrar Cdr. Dr. Samasundara signed the NoU on behalf of NITC and Shri. Anuraj A K signed it on behalf of MAGCOM.

A brochure of the newly formed Centre for Women Welfare and Social Empowerment (CWSE) was released by the Minister. The Chair of the center, Dr Suni Vasudevan, mentioned that the objectives of the centre is to empower girls and women towards self–sustenance, by enabling them to take part in decision-making and entrepreneurial skills, and providing equitable socio-economic opportunities.

Prof MK Ravi Varma, Chair, CIRFL, presented a brief report on the activities of the center during the last year. The first  newsletter of the Centre was released by the Hon. MLA Shri. P T A Rahim. The Hon. Minister also inaugurated a newly formed International Students and Scholars Office  to facilitate international exchanges.

Shri ARS Menon, Swadeshi Science Movement, Kochi,  spoke about Swadeshi Science Congress and updated the audience about the upcoming collaboration with Center for Indian Knowledge Systems, NITC. The Congress will be held in NIT Calicut during 25 - 27 May 2023 in association with the ICAR - Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) Calicut and KSCSTE - Centre for Water Resources Development & Management (CWRDM).

Dr Amit Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department and Coordinator, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0, addressed the gathering and spoke about the SKILL HUB at NITC. He spoke about the initiative taken by  NITC pertaining to PMKVY 4.0 and said that NITC has already envisioned 41 courses under the scheme.
