First International Conference on Logistics, Supply Chain and Transportation begins at NITC
The First International Conference on Logistics, Supply Chain and Transportation (ICLST) 2024, organised by the Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (CoELSCM) started at the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) on Wednesday. The three-day event has brought together experts and professionals from various sectors to discuss and explore advancements in logistics, supply chain management, and transportation.
Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Navi Mumbai, inaugurated the programme. During his inaugural address, Shri Unmesh emphasised the need for cost reduction in the logistics sector.
He also stressed the importance of bridging the gap between the skill pool available in the logistics sector and the requirements. There is huge scope for people skilled in the sector, he added.
Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, presided over the programme. The country is experiencing massive growth in the infrastructure sector and demands enhanced logistic support, he pointed out, stressing the importance of the conference.
Prof. Manoranjan Parida, Director of CSIR-Central Road Research Institute and the Guest of Honour of the inaugural session stressed the need for multi-model transportation to improve logistics and supply chain management.
Prof. Narayan Rangaraj, Professor of IIT Bombay; Shri Rajesh Menon, Associate Director and Maritime Expert, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India; Shri S.V. Madabhavi, Director (Technical) Vadhavan Port Project; Dr. Vinay Panicker, Chairperson CoELSCM and ICLST; Dr. Harikrishna M, organising secretary of ICLST and Dr. Pradeepmon T.G., organising secretary of ICLST also spoke.
Keynote sessions by Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Shri. S.V. Madabhavi, Prof. Manoranjan Parida, Shri Rajesh Menon and Prof. Guilherme Francisco Frederico was also part of the events on Wednesday.
A panel discussion on “Navigating Global Trade - The Dynamics of Logistics, Exports and Imports,” was also held as part of the programme in collaboration with Kerala Exporters Forum. Nritha Samanwayam, a dance performance by Kalamandalam Sangeetha Prasad and team will be held on Thursday. The conference will conclude on Friday.
