The Faculty Induction Programme (FIP) 2026 of the National Institute of Technology Calicut commenced on 15 June 2026 with an inaugural function held at Chanakya Hall. The programme is being organized by the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning (CHTL) in collaboration with the IIT Madras TLC and with the objective of supporting newly recruited faculty members in their transition to academic life and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values required for excellence in teaching, research, and institutional service.

The inaugural function began with a silent prayer, followed by a welcome address by Prof. A. Sujith, Coordinator of the Faculty Induction Programme and Chairperson of the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning. Prof. Shakila T. Shamsu, Visiting Professor in the Department of Education, introduced the objectives, structure, and expected outcomes of the fifteen-day induction programme, highlighting the importance of holistic faculty development in the context of contemporary higher education reforms.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NIT Calicut, through the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Felicitations were offered by Prof. Prasad Edamana, Teaching Learning Centre, IIT Madras and Coordinator of the Faculty Induction Programme. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Sunitha M. S., Dean (Faculty and Staff Welfare), NIT Calicut.

Following the inauguration, Prof. Prasad Krishna delivered the inaugural address and keynote session titled “Shaping the Future: The NIT Calicut Vision for Academic Excellence.” He outlined the Institute’s vision for academic quality, innovation, research excellence, and societal impact, while emphasizing the pivotal role of faculty members in nurturing student success and strengthening the institution’s academic ecosystem.

The academic sessions of Day One commenced with an interactive session by Prof. Shakila T. Shamsu on understanding the Indian higher education landscape, new transformative and contemporary reforms, the changing expectations of the academic profession and the evolving role of faculty in realizing the aspirations of the National Education Policy (NEP). This enabled participants to reflect on their roles as educators in a rapidly changing higher education landscape. Through reflective discussions and interactions, participants explored the changing expectations from higher education institutions and the opportunities available for academic innovation.

The afternoon sessions included an informative discussion on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and institutional mechanisms for ensuring a safe and inclusive workplace. Participants also engaged in a Human Bingo activity designed to foster networking, collaboration, and peer learning among newly inducted faculty members.

The day concluded with a Heartfulness Meditation session that encouraged participants to reflect, rejuvenate, and cultivate mindfulness as an essential component of personal and professional well-being.

The first day successfully combined institutional orientation, policy awareness, professional networking, and personal development, setting a positive and engaging tone for the remainder of the Faculty Induction Programme.
