Drone / UAS Technologies Bootcamp: “Learning by Doing”
The Drone/UAS Technologies Bootcamp, themed “Learning by Doing,” was jointly organized by the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) in collaboration with the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) and Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology (MBCET), Thiruvananthapuram, from June 23 to 28, 2025, at CET. Conducted as part of the MeitY-sponsored project Swayaan titled “Capacity building for human resource development in unmanned aircraft systems (Drone and related Technology),” the one-week intensive bootcamp engaged 150+ B.Tech students from diverse streams. Coordinated by Dr. Gangadhara Kiran Kumar L, Assistant Professor, MED, NITC, and supported by his team—Dr. Ananthan D Thampi, Mr. Saibaba Kota, and Mr. Sarathi Ap—the program offered foundational training in Drone/UAS technologies, including hands-on sessions in glider and drone-making, drone flying, and structural and fluid flow analysis of airfoils using Ansys. The bootcamp aimed to impart practical skills in UAV design, simulation, and prototyping, while encouraging innovation, collaboration, and critical engineering thinking among participants.
