Department of Architecture and Planning at NIT Calicut Shines in NIRF 2024 Rankings for the Sixth Consecutive Year

In a remarkable demonstration of academic excellence, the Department of Architecture and Planning at the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT Calicut) has once again secured a prestigious position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. Announced by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the rankings highlight the department's consistent prowess in the field of architecture and planning.

For the sixth consecutive year, NIT Calicut's Department of Architecture and Planning has maintained its place among the top three institutions in its category. Having debuted in the NIRF rankings in 2019 at the third position, the department quickly established itself as a leading force, climbing to the second position in 2020 and holding this rank steadfastly through 2021, 2022, and 2023. This year, despite achieving its highest NIRF score of 79.51, the department was narrowly surpassed by IIT Kharagpur, which secured the second position with a score of 80.71.

The department's high score across all NIRF metrics reflects its enduring commitment to excellence. This consistent performance underscores its significant role in advancing the fields of architecture, urban design, and planning. Additionally, the department's efforts have been recognized with the designation of a new Centre of Excellence in Urban Planning and Design, specifically for the Southern region of India. This accolade is supported by a substantial grant of Rs 250 crore allocated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the fiscal year 2023-24.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, ranks institutions across 16 categories in 2024, including Overall, Universities, Colleges, Research Institutions, and specialized disciplines such as Engineering, Management, Architecture and Planning, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dental, and Law.
