CONSTELLATE '23 Research Fest conducted at NITC

The research community of NIT Calicut organized its first-ever Research Fest, Constellate '23, on March 8, in association with Women Welfare and Social Empowerment (CWSE) NITC, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, IEEE WIE, IEEE Malabar SubSection, and the working group on gender equality and disability(GED) of Civil 20, an official engagement of G20. The fest allowed research scholars from various universities to showcase their work, exchange ideas and collaborate on future projects. Three hundred fifty research scholars, including 41 external participants, registered for the day-long festival themed 'Women in STEAM'. 

The fest was inaugurated by Harikumar K. P, from KSEB Malappuram and Secretary of IEEE Power and Energy Society Kerala Chapter. The institute administration led by Dr Prasad Krishna, the director of NITC, was also part of the inaugural function. 'Imagination Factory: Design to Product', a session by Dr Suresh Nair, co-founder and CEO of Design Alpha and former CTO of Nest, enlightened the audience on various product design techniques to satisfy customer requirements. The Poster Presentation event at the Bhaskara hall lobby was an opportunity for researchers to share and review research works from various fields. 'Choosing the right postdoc for you: Panel Discussion' (Event sponsored by IEEE PES Kerala Chapter), moderated by Dr Mervin Joe Thomas, had a panel of Dr Arun K Raj and Dr Samada Muraleedharan discussing the scope and aspects of postdoctoral programmes in India and abroad. 'Unravel: Researchers and their stories' was an opportunity for the alumni of the NITC PhD programme to inspire research scholars with stories of their PhD journey. Mr Govind Suresh, the CEO of ConsultEd, shared the tips and tricks for finding a PhD abroad in the afternoon. Dr Arun K Raj's session on writing for grants outlined the strategies of research correspondence. Dr Rahul Satheesh emphasized the effectiveness of Linkedin in his engaging session titled 'Art of Networking and personal branding on LinkedIn.' Dr Arun Ramachandran's session, 'Plug your research in Startup', explained the road from research to innovative business. 

Other programs for the fest included a treasure hunt, an elocution competition, an Interactive experience with augmented reality, research demonstrations and lab tours. The events were followed by a cultural evening in which the research community showcased their talents and a performance by Mathan, a renowned music director in Malayalam Cinema. The participants were grateful for the opportunity to interact and discuss research. The fest received favourable feedback from external participants as well.
