All India Inter-NIT hockey and handball tournament concludes at NITC
The All India Inter-NIT Handball and Hockey Sports Tournament concluded on January 8, 2023 at the National Institute of Technology Calicut, after an intense series of matches that spanned over three days.
The finals for Hockey and Handball were held on January 8, from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM. For the Men’s Hockey series, NIT Trichy secured first place followed by NIT Calicut. For the Women’s Handball series, NIT Calicut secured first place followed by NIT Warangal, and for the Men’s Handball series, NIT Kurukshetra secured first place followed by NIT Calicut. Venkat Ram (NIT Trichy), Mohit (NIT Kurukshetra), Tejaswini (NIT Calicut) recieved the 'Best Player Award' in the Hockey(Men ), Handball (Men & Women) series respectively.
The closing ceremony was held at the institute auditorium at 2:00 PM, with the felicitation of the winners, participants, coaches and observers. Col. Naveen Benjith, Commanding Officer of the 122 Infantry Battalion, TA Madras Unit was the Chief Guest for the ceremony. He shared his experience of being a sportsman himself and provided insight as to why sports plays a crucial role in building a community, a nation and its leaders.
The felicitation of the winners was done by P.S.Sathidevi, Deputy Director of NIT Calicut and Cdr (Dr.) Shamasundara M S , Registrar of NIT Calicut. The tournament report was presented by the tournament observer Dr. P Prashant, Sr. SAS Officer, NIT Warangal.
