A New Green Landmark at NIT Calicut

The Vertical Garden at the National Institute of Technology Calicut was formally inaugurated by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, in the presence of Dr. A. Shaija, Dean (Planning and Development), Dr. M.S. Sunitha, Dean (Faculty and Staff Welfare), Dr. Babu A.V., Dean Academics, Dr. Sunil Jacob John, Registrar, and other senior institute officials.

Recognized among the largest free-standing vertical gardens in Kozhikode district, the installation spans approximately 32 m × 4.5 m and showcases a sustainable blend of technology and nature. Designed using a hanging pot system, the garden is integrated with a fully automated online drip irrigation network and mist emitters for effective microclimate control.

The project also features an advanced fertigation system for efficient nutrient management and supplemental WRG spectrum lighting to ensure healthy plant growth and enhanced visual appeal.

The vertical garden hosts nearly 6,000 plants across 24 different species, primarily comprising ornamental foliage plants along with selected bulbous flowering species, creating a vibrant and eco-friendly addition to the campus landscape.

Reinforcing NIT Calicut’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and greener campuses for the future.
