33 KV Substation inaugurated at NITC
On Friday, the 30th of August 2024, a 33 KV substation was inaugurated at NIT Calicut. Shri K Krishnankutty, the Minister for Electricity, Government of Kerala, inaugurated the substation.
The new substation will cater to the electric power requirements of the NITC community as well as the local community at Chathamangalam, Chooloor, Malayamma, Kattangal and other areas.
The total expenditure for construction of the substation was Rs 7.96 Crores, of which 50% was borne by NIT Calicut, through funds granted by the Central Government under the Head – Capital Assets.
The substation, constructed on cents of land leased out to KSEB by NITC for 49 years, has two transformers - one transformer would cater exclusively to the NITC campus and the other will cater to the local community.
The 33kV substation is expected to augment the existing power infrastructure and alleviate the burden on the current distribution network. It will cater to the increasing electricity demands of the nearby panchayats, promote economic growth, and facilitate a better quality of life for the residents.
PTA Rahim, MLA of Kunnamangalam presided over the programme. Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut was felicitated at the function. Cdr. Dr M S Shamasundara, Registrar of NITC, senior officials of KSEB and people’s representatives attended.
