Materials Science and Engineering

This programme will impart state-of-the-art knowledge in advanced functional materials and aims to train students to address the challenges of this emerging field. The programme is designed for students with diverse backgrounds in both engineering and fundamental science. This program will cover the fundamentals and applications of the subject, with a focus on emerging areas of advanced functional materials. The programme offers basic and advanced courses, including the structure and properties of materials, synthesis and fabrication of materials, experimental techniques in materials, computational materials, Spectroscopy for materials, and a variety of elective subjects from which students can choose, depending on their background and interests. A laboratory course on the synthesis, characterisation, and property analysis of various advanced functional materials will also be offered as part of the curriculum. The specialisation in Materials Science and Engineering has a very high potential for employment in R&D, academia, and industry, and provides a gateway to the extremely challenging field, which is expected to have a profound impact on the future of all streams of science and technology.
