The 6th Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC) Meeting at NIT Calicut's BSED conference hall sets agenda for Biosafety Practices at the Institute Level

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC) held its biannual meeting on April 17th, 2024, at Conference Hall BSED, NIT Calicut. The IBSC, responsible for overseeing institute-level approvals for research projects concerning biosafety, convened under the guidelines set forth by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)-IBSC.

The members of the IBSC, Notably, Dr. Denoj Sebastian, the DBT Nominee, participated remotely, while esteemed members of the IBSC committee, including Dr. Priyanka Nair from Iqraa Hospital, Dr. Anup Kumar Kesavan from Kannur University, and Dr. Sheeja TE from ICAR-Spice Research, joined the session in person. Additionally, internal faculty members were in attendance, underscoring the collaborative effort to advance biosafety practices within the institution. 

Commencing at 2:15 PM, the meeting opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Md. Anaul Kabir, an internal member, setting the tone for constructive discussions ahead. Dr. Rajasekhar, the Member Secretary of IBSC, provided a comprehensive overview of the committee's activities over the preceding six months, highlighting the strides made in upholding biosafety protocols across various research initiatives such as Biosafety awareness lecture by Dr. Ilanila, and Biosafety practices followed in the various laboratories etc. 

A focal point of the meeting was the rigorous review of Dr. Cecil's research application, which underwent meticulous scrutiny before receiving IBSC approval. Through thorough deliberation, the committee have approved the Dr.Cecil’s application. 

As the session drew to a close at 3:30 PM, Dr. Rajasekhar expressed gratitude to all attendees for their valuable contributions, reinforcing the collective dedication to maintaining excellence in biosafety standards
