Student Innovative Projects Displayed
Institution Innovation Council(IIC) and CIEI of NIT Calicut jointly organised a poster exhibition on Monday to display student innovative projects. 81 innovative projects undertaken by both undergraduate and postgraduate students (266+ students), each bearing the promise of transformative solutions were displayed at the expo.
The Student Innovative Project (SIP) scheme was first initiated in 2017. So far, the project has supported 150+ innovative projects of UG and PG students.
During 2023, 81 innovative projects undertaken by both undergraduate and postgraduate students (266+ students), each bearing the promise of transformative solutions, were supported under this scheme with seed funding. An amount of Rs 47 Lakh was sanctioned by the director during 2023 for supporting student innovative projects.
The culmination of these endeavours was celebrated during the Demo Day on 7th May 2024. The products and prototypes of the students were displayed as part of the event. Students of various engineering departments including Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, Material Science, Chemical and Bio Science and Engineering along with Physics and Chemistry displayed their innovations.
These projects were designed to tackle challenges encountered by various industries and communities. Embracing principles of sustainability and innovation, each project sought to offer not just solutions but pathways to lasting change. The impact of these initiatives is tangible, with more than 14 patents currently in the process of being filed and 16 publications as a direct result of these projects. According to industry experts, some of these prototypes can be developed into products for commercial manufacturing.
The recognition and appreciation of such groundbreaking efforts were echoed by esteemed experts like Smt. Hema Latha T.R., Managing Director, Keltron (retired), and Sri Roshan Kynadi, CEO & Co-founder, ZuperAp & Agripreneur, expressed their delight in witnessing the boundless creativity and innovation emanating from the minds of our youth.
