NITC Signs Transformative Agreement with Publishers

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is set to advance in the open access movement to promote academic research. The institute has entered into transformative agreements with leading academic publishers, marking a pivotal moment in the promotion of open-access principles.

NITC has solidified transformative agreements with renowned publishers, including Wiley, the Institute of Physics (IOP), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). NITC is the first institute among the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) to enter into such agreements, and the initiative underscores its leadership in promoting open access within the academic community.

The transition from traditional subscription models to the Read and Publish model represents a paradigm shift in scholarly publishing at NITC, said Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, who envisioned the transition. This transition is sure to bring multifaceted benefits to the NITC community, enabling researchers to publish their work in open-access journals without incurring Article Processing Charges (APCs), he said adding that this initiative aligns with NITC's mission to foster knowledge dissemination and accessibility.

The Library Team led by Dr. Arun F. Adrakatti, In-charge Librarian and Library Advisory Committee, materialized the transformative concept with extensive groundwork and interaction with publishers. Their vision and commitment have played a pivotal role in driving forward NITC's open access initiative.

"The signing of these transformative agreements marks a significant milestone in our journey towards fostering a culture of open access," said Prof. Prasad Krishna. "We are committed to providing our researchers with the tools and resources they need to share their findings with the world without barriers or restrictions," he added.

The adoption of transformative agreements reflects NITC's proactive approach to advancing scholarly communication and promoting equitable access to knowledge. This strategic collaboration reinforces NITC's reputation as a leader in academic excellence and innovation.
