NITC launches online regular M. Tech Programme in Electric Vehicle Engineering

Industry connect with BOSCH, TATA Elxsi and other companies to improve with the initiative

National Institute of Technology Calicut, on Monday, launched an innovative M Tech Programme in Electric Vehicle Engineering. The initiative aims at offering an online-regular M Tech Programme for industry professionals and other students in Electric Vehicle Engineering. 

The total number of seats allotted for this online-regular M Tech programme is 20. Of the total, 50 per cent of the seats are industry-sponsored, and the remaining are self-sponsored. The programme is launched by the Electrical Engineering Department (EED) of NITC. Eight of the new batch candidates are from BOSCH and four from TATA Elxsi.

The presence of 50 per cent industry experts in the batch will benefit the remaining students as they can associate closely with industry experts, said Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, during his address at the launch function, at the Senate Hall of NIT Calicut. Now with the launch of this programme, the vice president of BOSCH and many other senior experts from automobile industries will become part of our academia, assuring excellent opportunities to students, he said.

Professor of practice system, where industry experts will become the faculty of the institution, is another initiative that will benefit the students of NIT Calicut, said Prof. Prasad Krishna. The problems are multi-disciplinary, and we are trying to equip our students to find multi-disciplinary solutions, said the Director of NITC.  

Sri. R K Shenoy, Vice President of BOSCH India highlighted the significance of this online M Tech Programme, during his address. It is the right time to start a new mode of engineering, and this programme offered in hybrid mode involves a lot of practicals to equip candidates, he opined.

Green energy is the need of the hour and the engineers from a new stream can contribute a great deal towards this, said Sri. Anush G Nair, senior Technology Manager of Tata Elxsi. Tata Elxsi is happy to collaborate with NITC, and the initiative to set up a new laboratory on the Campus will enhance the collaboration, he said. 

Industry Connect will ensure the availability of industry-ready engineers, said Prof. Sameer S M, Dean (Academic). The new programme will be mutually beneficial to the institute and the industry as the students are permitted to work on projects related to their responsibilities in the industry, he said. 

Dr. Ashok S, Professor of EED; Dr. Kumaravel S, Associate Professor of EED, Prof. Preetha P, Head of EED, Dr. Praveen Shankaran, Chairperson, Centre for Career Development, Dr. Sreelakshmi M P, Assistant Professor EED, Cdr (Dr) Shamasundara M S, Registrar of NITC also spoke at the launch function function.
