NITC hosts workshop on Sustainable Geotechnics

The Department of Civil Engineering (CED), National Institute of Technology Calicut organised a one-day workshop on Sustainable Geotechnics and Geophysical Investigations for Site Characterization on Friday. The workshop was conducted to provide a platform for participants to delve into sustainable practices and cutting-edge techniques related to geotechnics and geophysical investigations for site characterization.

The programme was opened by Dr. Anil Joseph, National President of Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS), New Delhi. Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, presided over the programme. 

The event brought together experts, researchers, and students, fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas to address contemporary challenges in civil engineering. With a focus on sustainability, the workshop presented valuable insights into the ongoing discourse in geotechnical engineering, paving the way for environmentally conscious practices in site
characterization.

Dr. S Chandrakaran, Professor of CED was honoured during the inaugural session of the workshop. Prof. T M Madhavan Pillai, head of CED and Dr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor, CED, also spoke at the inaugural session. 

Keynote addresses by Dr. Anil Joseph, Dr. S Chandrakaran, Dr. Vandana Sreedharan, Associate Professor of Government Engineering College Kannur and Dr. Kodi Rangaswamy, Associate Professor, CED, enriched the participants. A field demonstration was also part of the event.
