NITC conducts session on Cyber Challenges in Law Enforcement

MoU with Kerala Police

NIT Calicut has organised a session on “Cyber Challenges in Law Enforcement” for students and faculty. The session was part of a visit by Shri. Harishankar IPS, SP, Cyber Operations, Kerala Police.

NITC and Kerala Police Cyberdom had recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding for strengthening cyber security initiatives. The visit was conducted as part of the ongoing MoU between Kerala Police and NIT Calicut.

India is purchasing a large number of cyber security software for detecting and preventing cyber fraud activities from abroad, said Mr. Harishankar during the session and suggested that NIT Calicut should try to develop indigenous software for cyber fraud detection and prevention to help India save a lot of money in these software purchase from abroad. 

An alumnus of NITC, Mr. Harishankar compared three different cyber security models followed in China, USA and Israel. He also pointed out the excellent chip-based cyber security handling technology developed by Israel. He also invited the attention of NITC students and the research community on the threats  coming from the Dark Web. 

“The Computer Science and Engineering Department of NIT Calicut has highly talented people who can help Kerala Police in Cybercrime Investigation”, said Dr. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut.  

Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NITC, Prof. Jose Mathew, Chairperson of the Centre for Industry-Institutional Relations, Prof. S D Madhu Kumar, Chairperson of CITRA (Centre for Information Technology Research and Automation) and others attended the session. Prof. Prasad Krishna and Mr. Harishankar IPS exchanged the previously signed MoU at the function.
