NIT Calicut observes ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’

The ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ was observed at NIT Calicut to bring to light the agony, sufferings and pain of millions of people who suffered at the time of partition. The programme was organised by the Department of Chemistry.

Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut presided over the function, and paid tribute to the millions of people who suffered and lost their lives due to partition and related violence. In his presidential address, he stressed on the importance of removing all unnecessary thoughts of divisions from our minds, to bring peace, harmony and the spirit of oneness among all.

He pointed out that, it will ultimately strengthen our nation by enhancing our productivity and intuitive thinking, thus promoting new inventions and discoveries. A presentation which included the historical photographs of the 1947 partition was also arranged to commemorate the limitless turmoil of the citizens during the time.

Dr. Suni Vasudevan, Head of Chemistry Department of NITC mentioned about the great sacrifices of our ancestors, that has helped us to achieve the current independence. Prof. G. Unnikrishnan, Dr. Raju Dey and Ms. Sreelakshmi and Ms Amala Shaliya Joseph also spoke. Video messages from the senior officers at the Indian Army and alumni were also delivered at the function. The students arranged several cultural programmes including patriotic songs, group dance and Independence Day speeches in several regional languages as part of the programme.
