NIT Calicut Forges strategic collaboration with University of Central Florida for academic advancement

The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) and the University of Central Florida (UCF) Board of Trustees have announced a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research, and outreach.

The collaboration between UCF and NITC signifies a commitment to advancing education and research, and addressing global challenges. The exchange of expertise and resources is expected to create a favourable environment for groundbreaking research and development, contributing to sustainable solutions and academic excellence.

Professor Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to provide significant research opportunities for faculty members and students. He highlighted the valuable resources and expertise available at UCF pointing out the scope of various research immersion programs, including joint Doctoral Programmes.

According to Prof. Prasad Krishna, this collaboration aligns with our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji's vision of a global biofuel alliance, national solar mission and national green hydrogen mission.

This collaboration was realised following the efforts of the 1985 batch of NITC, registered as a non-profit in Kerala under the name Intecsol.

Prof. Jayanta Kapat, Pegasus Professor and the director of the Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research (CATER) at UCF underscored the crucial role engineers and scientists can play in transition to green energy technologies for sustainable development.

He called for collaborative efforts from colleges of engineering, science, and management to address energy-related issues. NIT Calicut, being a multidisciplinary educational institution, having established a Centre for Clean Energy and Circular Economy, can play a significant role in energy-related research, he added.

Addressing the challenge of high Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will be a tough task as the level of CO2 emission is high in countries with high standards of living, said Prof. Kapat stressing the need for concrete efforts to handle the situation. He further interacted with faculty and students at NIT Calicut and discussed post-doctoral programs and other academic initiatives which can strengthen ties between the two institutions.

Prof. Ravi Varma, Chairperson, Centre for International Relations; Mr. Sunil Kumar, Representative of Alumni 85 Batch (Intecsol) and secretary of NITC Alumni Association; Mr. Jayaraman, representative of Alumni 85 batch (Intecsol); Dr. Sathidevi P S, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication; Dr. M Yogesh Kumar and Dr. Raghu C V, coordinators of the programme also spoke.
