National Institute of Technology Calicut signed MoU with KMCT Medical College and KMCT Dental College

National Institute of Technology Calicut and KMCT Medial College and KMCT Dental College, Mukkam, entered into an MoU to foster the collaboration in education, research, technology development and its translation. In the function organised at NITC, the Director of NITC, Prof. Prasad Krishna and Dr. Lathi Nair, Principal, KMCT Medical College and Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal, KMCT Dental College, signed the MoU in the presence of dignitaries from NITC and KMCT Medical and KMCT Dental College.

During the programme, Dr. Jose Mathew, the Chairperson of Centre for Industry Institutional Relations, presented the various collaborative researches NITC is doing in the medical field along with other Institutions like MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute, Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode, Dr. Moopen’s Medical College Wayanad, SCTIMST, KMC Mangalore, etc. He also mentioned that there are some ongoing projects in which KMCT Medical and KMCT Dental College are actively taking part.

Dr. Santhosh, Professor of KMCT Dental College presented in nutshell about the group of institutions under KMCT and mentioned that the dental college is a recognised centre for Research.

Director of NITC, Prof. Prasad Krishna, in his address mentioned that the MoU will strengthen the collaboration in promoting research and development and will establish stronger ties between the two Institutions. This MoU will create better opportunities for the students, faculty and staff giving a broader frame work for areas to associate and can jointly look for funding from different government agencies for these researches. Dr. Lathi Nair, Principal KMCT Medical College, emphasized importance of research and technology intervention in the medical procedures among the doctors. The group of institutions is emphasising on the innovations and product development too and has made some commendable achievements.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal, KMCT Dental College, pointed out that some of the specific areas which the Dental college is looking for collaborative research are Materials Science, Nano Technology, Artificial Intelligence applications and surgical stent prototyping through 3D printing.

Dr. Rajendran and Dr. Kuriakose from KMCT Medical College, mentioned that there are lot of scope for conversion of medical problems into technological solutions and suggested that a brain storming session in a group comprising of medical professionals and technologists might result in product ideas.

Dr. Sathidevi, Deputy Director, Dr. Sameer S M, Dean Academic, Cdr. Dr. Shamasundara, Registrar of NITC also supported the initiatives and addressed the gathering. It was also informed that there are a number of new faculty joined in various departments of NITC and they will also be able to translate the problem statements into technical solutions with proper definition of the problems form the medical side.

Dr. Pournami, Dr. Abdul Nazeer and Dr. Jayaraj Dr. Praveen Sankaran, Dr. Madhu Kumar S D, and Dr. Preethi from NITC also participated in the discussion and mentioned about their researches in the medical field.

The MoU also aims at floating collaborative elective courses, internships and PhD guidance in these Institutions, utilising the resources of both the institutions.
