National Institute of Technology Calicut has kick-started sports week celebrations on the campus to celebrate National Sports Day

National Institute of Technology Calicut has kick-started sports week celebrations on the campus to celebrate National Sports Day. The Day is observed on August 29, to mark the birthday of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

The Centre for Student Activities and Sports at NITC is celebrating the day from August 21 to 29. The theme of the event is "Sports as an Enabler for an Inclusive and Fit Society."

Various events such as tug-of-war for men and women, a mini-marathon, a hockey shootout, a mini football (Futsal), and volleyball competitions are part of the event.

The tug of war took place on August 21, 2023. A total of 11 teams enthusiastically participated in the event resulting in an energy-packed final where the institute cricket team defeated the basketball team in the finals to lift the trophy.

A mini marathon was held on the campus on August 23. The event was flagged off by Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director of NITC. Faculty members and officers, including Prof. Rajanikant G. K., Dean (Students Welfare); Dhanesh Rambeth, Sports Officer; Dr. Chandrasekhar Besta, NCC Officer; Sreeram V K, Assistant Registrar; Sudheep C R. Around 100 students participated in the mini-marathon. Mr. George and Ms. Soumya won first place respectively in the men's and women's categories. Dr. S Kumaravel, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Department won first place in the faculty and non-faculty category. Trophies were given to the winners, and medals were given to competitors who won the first ten positions. Prof. Rajanikant G.K., Dean of Students' Welfare distributed the prizes.
