Town hall meeting at NITC as part of Amrit Kaal Vimarsh

Mr. Ravi Raghavan, alumnus of NIT Calicut and Managing Director of Bharat Fritz Werner Ltd interacted with the students

National Institute of Technology Calicut, on Thursday, organized a Town Hall Meeting with Mr. Ravi Raghavan, an alumnus of the Institute and the Managing Director of Bharat Fritz Werner Ltd. During the interaction, Mr. Ravi Raghavan urged the students to follow three basics of success- attitude, academics and value and culture, to achieve heights in their lives.

The employers are looking for employees with a positive attitude as all other things can be acquired or imparted, he said. Even the small things we learn during our education can make big changes in our lives, he added.

He also stressed the significance of upholding Indian values and culture. The Westerners are good marketers and they pack and market the products conceptualized and produced by us, he said referring to the fascination of the young generation towards the Western culture.

The Town Hall Meeting was held as part of ‘Amrit Kaal - Vimarsh, Viksit Bharat@2047: A Development Dialogue in the Campuses of Higher Education Institutions in India,' conceptualized and implemented by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

“India has been witnessing a huge transformation in the past 15 years,” said Mr. Ravi Raghavan while referring to the abundant opportunities available to the Indian youth and industries in the present era. Now, leading companies in developed countries and other countries are keen to collaborate with Indian companies as they are convinced about the capabilities of the Indian industries, he said.

The manufacturing industry and shop floors are the places where innovation is taking place, he said stressing the need to focus more on the manufacturing sector. China and Germany could develop and grow because of their stronghold in manufacturing and if India wants to grow, we should also focus on manufacturing, he pointed out.

A country that was almost bankrupt in 1991 has become a 3.7 trillion-dollar economy now because we have stopped defensive. The change was drastic and our industries are doing exceptionally well, ISRO is doing excellent work, pointed out Mr. Ravi. India is the only country that has the potential to bear the global load for GDP growth, he added.

Referring to the significance of India in the manufacturing sector, Mr. Ravi emphasized that India is the only country that has the human resources to bear the global load. Several economies are looking for an alternative market for China by upholding ‘China plus one’ strategy and India is the force that can emerge as a global marketplace, he said.

Dr. M. S. Shamasundara, Registrar of NITC, Prof. Jose Mathew, Chairperson of Centre for Industry - Institutional Relations (CIIR) and Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Nikhil Sasidharan, Associate Dean (Students Welfare) and Ben Thomas, Alumni Affairs Secretary were also present.
