Advanced Wireless Communication & Signal Processing Lab

This lab is one of the few in India, hosting an Advanced Wireless Communication test-bed for prototyping and testing the various physical layer algorithms for an end to end communication system. A high performance computing system and a Data Acquisition and logging system, high-end FPGA and Audiometry booth are also available for various research activities.

Facilities in the Lab

1.  Advanced MIMO Testbed

16 Tx by 2 Rx MIMO base station with a programmable radio supporting at least 40 MHz bandwidth per RF channel, with a carrier frequency of 1.5 GHz to 6 GHz.  It has a user programmable FPGA based Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA using LabVIEW communication system design suite with integrated support for .m file scripts, C libraries, and VHDL IP. It has data streaming rates of more than 10 GB/s and real-time MIMO processing bandwidth of more than 18 MHz.

2. High-end Graphic Processing System

This system has 12 Cores using an Intel Workstation Class Chipset and has a memory of 128 GB DDR4 with a speed of 2666 MHz.  For storage purposed a 1 TB SSD is available. The system has an NVIDIA P6000 Graphics card of memory 24GB and has a Gigabit Network Interface card supporting two ports

3. Infrared Camera

A thermal imaging camera with and Infrared Resolution of 384 x 288 (110,592 pixels) with a Spectral Range of 8.0 µm - 14.0 µm is available. The camera can detect in a temperature range of -20 to 650°C ( 32 to 1200°F) with a thermal sensitivity of less than 0.08°C at 30°C. It has a frame rate of 50 Hz with a dynamic range of 14 bit. For storage purposes a 16 GB memory is available. The image file format is in a standard radiometric JPEG. The communication Interfaces is made possible using USB 2.0 and the video output is over USB Type-C.

4. Data Acquisition and Debugging System

The general purpose Data Acquisition system has a NI cDAQ-9137 controller with a 1.91GHz Atom processor and a 32GB internal memory running on Windows OS. The sound and vibration module has 4 channels with a sampling rate of 51.2 kS/s and a general purpose microphone array. The controller has 7 other slots to accommodate other input modules which can read various other physical parameters.

5. Audiometric  Booth

The acoustic booth can reduce noise by up to 50 dB for the frequency range of 1000 to 3000 Hz.  The

dimensions of the chamber is 1.2x1.2x2.4 meters.
