Indo-Norway SPARC Workshop on "Artificial Intelligence and Hyperspectral Imaging in Smart Agriculture" from 06th - 10th July 2026.
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Calicut, in collaboration with Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway are jointly organizing the Indo-Norway SPARC Workshop on “Artificial Intelligence and Hyperspectral Imaging in Smart Agriculture” during 06–10 July 2026 under the SPARC scheme sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
The workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of hyperspectral imaging, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and deep learning techniques for smart agriculture applications. The program focuses on hyperspectral data acquisition, spectral analysis, image processing, AI-driven agricultural monitoring, crop disease detection, food quality assessment, and precision farming technologies. Expert sessions will be delivered by faculty members and researchers from NTNU Norway, IITs, IIITs, ISRO, IIST, NITs, and leading agricultural institutions, R&D organizations, and industries.
The workshop is designed to promote interdisciplinary learning and research in smart agriculture through AI-driven frameworks and spectral imaging technologies. Participants will gain exposure to modern agricultural sensing systems, UAV and satellite-based monitoring, remote sensing, deep learning applications, and smart agriculture systems. The program also includes hands-on training sessions on hyperspectral cameras, Python programming sessions, demonstrations, and industrial/field visits.
The following are the key topics of the workshop:
• Introduction to Smart Agriculture and Digital Farming
• Overview of AI and its applications in smart farming
• Deep learning and neural networks
• LLMs and Generative AI models
• Multispectral and hyperspectral imaging
• Remote sensing and satellite hyperspectral imaging
• UAV and satellite-based spectral monitoring
• Real-time smart agriculture systems
• Crop disease detection and monitoring
• Applications of HSI in agriculture and food quality assessment
• Python programming during lab sessions
• Hands-on training on hyperspectral cameras
• Industrial/field visit and demonstrations
The program is designed to support motivated professionals, teachers, researchers, agricultural scientists, and industry personnel with a keen interest in smart agriculture, AI, and hyperspectral imaging. Additionally, graduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students with a strong interest in scientific, agricultural, and engineering research are encouraged to participate.
• No participant registration fee will be collected.
• Participation is limited to 30 selected participants.
• Limited Travel allowance will be available
• Accommodation in hostel guest rooms will be provided on a payment basis, subject to availability.
• Hands-on training sessions, demonstrations, and industrial/field visits are included as part of the workshop.
• Opportunity to interact with experts from NTNU Norway, IITs, IIITs, ISRO, IIST, NITs, agricultural institutions, R&D organizations, and industries.
