19th Convocation of NITC on 2nd September, 2023

The 19 th Convocation of the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) will be conducted on 2 nd September 2023 Saturday at 4:00 p.m. A total of 1900 graduands will be receiving their degrees during the convocation, which include 1159 B.Tech., 47 B.Arch., 438 M.Tech., 15 M.Plan., 53 MCA, 41 MBA, 61 M.Sc., and 86 Ph.D degrees. This is an all-time record number in the history of the Institute. Last year, the total number of graduates was 1688.

Prof. T G Sitaram, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India, will be the Chief Guest of this function and he will deliver the Convocation Address. Shri. Gajjala Yoganand, Chairperson, Board of Governors of National Institute of Technology Calicut, will preside over the function and declare the convocation ceremony open. Mr Sebi Joseph, President, OTIS India will be the Guest of Honour. Prof. Prasad Krishna, Director, NITC, will present the Annual Report. Registrar of the institute Cdr. (Dr) M. S Shamasundara, Dean (Academic) Prof. Sameer S. M. and the Heads of various departments will administer the convocation ceremony.

The convocation ceremony reflects the dedication and commitment of the NITC community towards research, innovation and education. Excelling in the area of innovation by promoting faculty, student and entrepreneur innovations, we have successfully secured 8th rank in the innovation ranking. Upholding the glory of 60-plus years of existence, NIT Calicut is the only NIT that has secured a position in the first 10 ranks. NITC secured the 8th rank at the national level in the Innovation ranking on the basis of excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development.

In the national level NIRF ranking of this year, the Architecture programme of NITC retained its prestigious second rank, while the Engineering stream of NITC has made a commendable improvement to be ranked 23rd at the All-India level. The rank in the previous year was 31. During the past year, NITC received 25 patents, five trademarks and copyright certifications for student and faculty innovations. The institute has also filed 14 patent applications for student innovation projects completed during 2022-23.

The function will be conducted in the Open Air Theatre. We are happy to have two eminent personalities, Prof T G Sitaram and Mr Sebi Joseph, as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour for this year’s convocation.

Prof. T G Sitaram

Professor T. G. Sitaram, the esteemed Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is a seasoned educationist with a stellar academic and administrative background. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and has accumulated a wealth of experience in various educational roles, including serving as a professor, dean, and director in esteemed technical institutions across India. He served as the director of the Indian Institute of Technology in Guwahati, Assam from July 2019 to December 2022. He obtained a B.E. in Civil Engineering from the University of Mysore, followed by master's and doctoral degrees from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and the University of Waterloo, respectively. He had worked at the University of Texas, the University of Waterloo, the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore etc. during the early days of his career.

Mr. Sebi Joseph

Mr. Sebi Joseph is the esteemed President of OTIS India, a prominent player in the elevator and escalator industry. Sebi Joseph, President of OTIS India, holds a strong educational background in engineering and management, with a degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA. With a wealth of experience and a keen strategic vision, he has played a pivotal role in OTIS India's growth and prominence.
