Mega Hostel-II for Boys

The new Mega Hostel-II for Boys with 1500 single occupancy rooms was inaugurated by the then Union Minister of state for Education, Electronics & Information Technology and Communications, Sri. Sanjay Dhotre in February 2021. This is the third such hostel in the campus.  It was constructed by Central PWD with a total budget of Rs. 165.24 crores. The mega hostel was initially funded by the former Ministry of HRD (now Ministry of Education) and the work was entrusted to CPWD. The remaining fund of Rs. 75 crore was provided by the ‘Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA). The foundation stone of the project was laid by the former president Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. 

The project comprises a total of 15 wings with a total plinth area of 64505 sq.m and   is one of the largest such hostels in the country. 14 wings consist of 1500 residential rooms measuring 3.4x3.0 m each. The number of floors in these residential wings vary from five to nine. There are 14 discussion rooms, 14 TV rooms, 14 reading rooms, 18 store rooms, 2 warden rooms, 28 resident tutor and sick rooms. 8 lifts and fire escape stairs are provided. The project includes a lightning arrestor system and a fire-fighting system with a water tank of 1 lakh litre capacity. Separate fresh water tanks and flushing water tanks with a total capacity of 2.54 lakh litres are provided on the terrace of each wing.  Additionally there is an underground water sump of 4.00 lakh litres capacity available to meet the demand.The project also includes a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of 4.75 lakh litres per day capacity and a substation with two DG sets for round the clock uninterrupted power supply.

The fifteenth wing, called Dining Block, is of two floors and the area of each floor is 5771 sq.m. The dining hall has a seating capacity of 1500 with provision for separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian dining and kitchens. Kitchens are equipped with steam-based modern cooking equipment for preparing nutritious food efficiently and hygienically, preserving the taste. Cooking gas stations and solar water heaters are also available.
